As part of its commitment to continually improve its Software Development capabilities, Quarksoft has begun development of HAPS, a project management and tracking system to be used internally for all future projects. When deployed, HAPS will be help Engineers plan and track their projects, provide management with key project metrics, collect and analyze project history information and in general help Quarksoft Engineers increase their productivity and the level of control and insight they have over their projects. The HAPS project is currently ongoing and is expected to run well over one hundred thousand lines of code when complete. Requirements were captured in the course of several weeks through the creation of a functional prototype using Ruby and Ruby on Rails. Grounded on this prototype an initial Service Oriented Architecture was elaborated, with the intention of decomposing system functionality into multiple, stand-alone, services, which are expected to be re-usable in other Quarksoft projects. For the implementation platform, Microsoft's .NET framework was chosen, as it was felt the platform provides a good compromise between productivity and level of industry maturity. The HAPS team is geographically distributed between Mexico City and Zacatecas.
