"There has to be a better way"
Quarksoft was actually founded out of frustration.
After several years of working in the software development industry, the founders of Quarksoft were not satisfied with their professional lives. They were frustrated with too many nights without sleep, by too many development projects in crisis, bad budgeting decisions, too many birthdays and anniversaries celebrated in front of a computer monitor, being sick because of all of these problems, fighting with bureaucrats that "don't get it" and various other troubles that are part of some standard software development shops.
After too many crises, the founders thought that there had to be a better way to develop software. To understand the principles behind software development, they looked for excellent training, and found it in the Master of Software Engineering Program at Carnegie Mellon University.
While there is no "magic wand" in software development, at CMU they learned the key elements of great software development:
robust software engineering techniques,
the fundamentals of software development processes,
quantitative controls,
the importance of good technical management of software projects
CMU also helped them learn something more: the human element is fundamental to software development. They learned that the customer must be involved at all steps of the process. It's not enough for developers to use the best technologies to develop software if no one buys or uses it. This belief lead Quarksoft to its key principle: "Customer satisfaction is fundamental."
After completing their post-graduate studies, the founders looked for a company that already implemented these ideas but such a company didn’t exist. The founders realized they must start their own company, Quarksoft, to achieve the best in software development: quality, human resources, technology, and customer satisfaction. So far, the venture is going extremely well.
